I play on line with buddies in Florida, No. Carolina and Oklahome City. WE play about five nights a week, late, late, late, after the wives are in bed. While we play we are all connected to Yahoo Messenger voice chat so we can talk as we play. We have a few little problems from time to time but nothing we can't handle quickly. I recomend this game to anyone who enjoys golf. I'm an old Geezer and can't swing a club without falling on my Keester so this game is a savior. 4 stars (Great Deal for a Great Game) - Let me start by saying that this game is the closest to real golf that you can get on a computer. The game is very big and well designed. There is so much to do with this game. You start by creating your character, which is a very fun process in itself. Like others mentioned there are enough options that you can get your character to look almost exactly like you. It's actually kind of scary. I even bought the exact clubs I use in real life.
After you've had that fun you start playing on the amateur tour. You enter tournaments and win some money. You can use that money to buy new clubs and equipment and improve you attributes in a number of different categories such as "long game" and "short game". You take lessons to learn new shots such as "high spin" and "flop". Your ultimate goal is to win the amateur championship and become a pro. Once you do this you join the EA Sports tour, when you win the championship on this tour it's off to Q-School and the PGA Tour.
The graphics in this game are really spectacular. I have a high end system so I can't comment on the requirements but I would imagine you need a fairly modern PC to play this game to its full potential. I will admit that this game is the only program that has ever caused my PC to crash. It has only happened a couple of times but it has happened.
The only complaint I have with this game is that it might be too much like real golf. By that I mean that you can hook and slice and mis-hit shots just like you're really out on the course. Some days I'll be on fire and hitting everything long and straight and other days I can't hit a shot to save my life. I seem to have a problem with a hook. If you are easily frustrated watch out for this game. I know it has had me cursing on more then one occasion. Honestly though, I like the "True-Swing" feature of this game. It gives everything a very authentic feel. And if I the game were too easy it probably wouldn't be as fun. My wife just worries about my blood pressure sometimes and this game doesn't help :)
For the price, this is a no brainer really. It takes about 15 minutes to play 18 holes and it really is a lot of fun. Sure it can be frustrating but that's what keeps me playing. There is so much to do with this game and the replay value is so high I'm sure I will be playing it longer then any other game I own. It's a great game to have installed and play a few times a week when you're bored. I took one star away because it has crashed my PC a few times. Overall I highly recommend TW 2005. 4 stars (Don't buy the gamepad controllers! Tiger Woods 2005 rocks!) - TW2005 is fantastic in almost every regard BUT do not naively buy the Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 (or any other gamepad) listed below as an accessory because this game does not support gamepad use. Technically you can program the gamepad to work with the game but it will not work effectively (i.e. not sensitive enough to emulate a full power swing). So use your good old mouse and send a little letter to EA Games begging for gamepad compatibility!
Otherwise, this game is incredible is every regard! Graphics are lifelike, sound is sweet, commentators are hilarious (even if they stink at reading putts), and the options are endless! This is the CD-ROM version. The full version can be purchased by clicking on the "Buy Now" button below for around $19.99 USD. Click to buy with discount via Amazon |
